Reading

At Newlaithes Nursery & Infants we love reading!

The children are taught the sounds letters make during their phonic sessions. We follow 'Read, Write inc' to teach phonics.

Mrs Willows is our Reading Leader and you are welcome to contact her for any help and advice about reading with your child.

Phonics is important, but activities throughout the year, and in our annual book week, also help the children develop a love of books. We may, for example, visit the local library, work with authors or dress as book characters. Our morning book club is popular with the children too.

The children listen to stories every day. Each year group has identified a core set of books that they want your child to become familiar with. We want our children to love reading so they will continue to thrive beyond their time with us.
