Welcome from the Head

Welcome to Newlaithes Infant School, a caring school where we aim for pupils, staff, governors and parents to work together to make learning fun. We work strongly as a team, creating a supportive and challenging environment - a place that is stimulating and safe for pupils, staff, governors and parents to learn and progress and develop a lifelong love of learning. We work towards 'enjoyment and success in learning'.

We aim to provide an environment where all children are happy. Sharing, being kind to others and respecting people and property are strongly emphasised. In April 2013, Ofsted inspectors said, "The highly supportive approach of staff creates classrooms where pupils feel happy, safe, secure and ready to learn."

We operate a positive approach to behaviour management and all staff, including lunchtime supervisors, have undergone training in this area. There are few school rules but those that do exist are designed to teach children to respect others and their belongings and to ensure safety for all. With the help of the class teacher, the children make their own class promise, to show how they want their classroom to be.

In February 2010 we became the first school in Cumbria to achieve the National Investors in Pupils Award. In April 2013 we were reaccredited with this award - we are very proud of this! We hold the Healthy Schools Award and the Activemark. The Early Years Foundation Stage has been awarded the Cumbrian Kitemark. In June 2012 we were awarded an Artsmark in recognition of the high quality arts education we offer the children.

If you are the parent of a child already in school, I hope that you find the website useful and interesting and I look forward to seeing you at one of our events. If you are reading our website with a view to bringing your child to our school, you are welcome to come and visit us. I would be delighted to show you around and explain our plans for the future.
